Ann Marie Thompson Howell
Ann Marie Thompson Howell, a native of Myrtle Beach, earned her undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston where she earned the prestigious Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Award. She graduated with honors in 2003 with a BA in History and English.
She then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and graduated in 2007. While in law school she was an active member of Phi Alpha Delta, Women in Law, and the Pro Bono Program. She also served as Research Editor for The Southeastern Environmental Law Journal and as a research assistant for Professor William Quirk.
Ann Marie began practicing in 2007 as an Assistant Solicitor, under the Honorable Trey Gowdy, for the 7th Judicial Circuit in Spartanburg, SC. She was a member of the Criminal Domestic Violence team and focused the majority of her time both prosecuting Domestic Violence suspects as well as advocating awareness of sexual assault and abuse throughout the county. She spoke several times at the Interdisciplinary Domestic Violence Awareness Conference. She was also on the Board of Safe Homes, the rape crisis center located in Spartanburg.
In 2011, Ann Marie began working as a staff attorney with the South Carolina Department of Revenue. There, she continued prosecution under the guidance of South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. She tried and convicted tax evaders throughout the state. She also worked with the Regulatory Department in the SCDOR regulating Charitable Bingos and overseeing alcohol licensing. Ann Marie handled several complex tax cases, one of which was heard before the South Carolina Court of Appeals.
Ann Marie moved to the Greenville area after marrying her husband in 2014. She joined a civil litigation firm in Greenville where she practiced in a variety of areas, including personal injury, both Plaintiffs and Defense, Real Estate, Unfair Trade Practices, Products Liability, and Ponzi Scheme Cases. She also assisted as general counsel to several large businesses throughout the state.
In her spare time, Ann Marie enjoys spending time with her husband and family, traveling, being outdoors, biking, hiking, running, reading and during the summertime, anything related to water. She is an active member of her church and loves volunteering. She also likes writing articles for local lifestyle and entertainment articles. Prior to attending law school, she was the Assistant Editor and Main Writer for GS Magazine out of Myrtle Beach.
